Frequently Asked Questions
Find clear, expert answers to the most common questions regarding fertility treatments, testing, and care at VB Fertility Clinic.
IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) is a fertility treatment where eggs are retrieved from the woman and fertilized with sperm in a laboratory. The resulting embryos are then cultured and transferred back into the uterus to achieve pregnancy.
The typical IVF process takes about 4 to 6 weeks from the start of medication to embryo transfer. This includes ovarian stimulation (about 8-14 days), egg retrieval, fertilization, embryo development (3-5 days), and finally the embryo transfer.
No, IVF does not require hospital admission. The egg retrieval procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under sedation, and patients can typically go home the same day. Embryo transfer is also a quick outpatient procedure.
Eggs are collected through a procedure called transvaginal ultrasound-guided aspiration. A thin needle is guided through the vaginal wall into the ovary to gently extract the mature eggs. The procedure takes about 15-20 minutes and is performed under mild sedation.
Patients typically receive daily hormone injections for 8-14 days during the ovarian stimulation phase. The exact number and frequency depend on individual response and the specific protocol used. Injections are self-administered and our team provides complete training and support.
A pregnancy test (beta hCG blood test) is usually performed 10-14 days after embryo transfer. This is when HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) levels become detectable. A follow-up ultrasound is typically scheduled at 6-7 weeks to confirm viability.
There is no difference between IVF babies and naturally conceived babies. Once an IVF embryo implants in the uterus, the development is identical to a natural pregnancy. IVF simply helps the fertilization process in the laboratory, but the resulting baby is born normally and develops just like any other child.
Success rates depend on several factors including age, egg quality, sperm quality, and uterine health. Generally, success rates range from 40-60% per cycle for women under 35, and decrease with age. Our specialists can provide personalized success rate estimates after a thorough evaluation.
